French & Associates view the Organization Development (OD) process as a collective effort to strengthen and improve an organization with the full participation of its people.

Problem solving is emphasized, but the most significant contribution is in creating a culture that focuses on the continuous vitalization of the system. OD is a normal and vital part of a healthy organization and is often a response to change or the need to improve and grow. It is systemic in nature and often utilizes behavioral science approaches to reinforce planned development and organizational strategies, structures, and processes for improving an organization's effectiveness. Most importantly, the role of the client is co-facilitator in this process of planned change, and input from all organizational members is critical.
